I was definitely the only person taking a picture and looking very confused. I also couldn't see what plate it had, but I don't think it was Canadian.

Mexico? We don’t have VW pickups in Canada.

probably Mexican

If VW sold this in the US and Canada, they’d come back from the TDI cheating scandal so fast! Even if they ate the 25% chicken tax

I saw one of those at IMS a while back, but it was on Texas dealer plates.

They would have to sell the V6 as the 2.0l got caught cheating. Still 405 lb/ft of torque is a nice trade off.

Loos like mexico plates. One of my older posts contains an Amarok on the highway I ran into from Mexico a month or so ago and has similar plates

automakers can operate non-compliant vehicles on the road under exemption on a case-by-case basis. it’s a short term thing, and the vehicles in question have to be either re-exported or destroyed after the short term.

Oh that would make sense. I know, although I just learned that they might be sold here soon, or they’re looking into it at least

This one said “Baja Bean” on the side, so I don’t think it was a VW truck

The V6 got caught cheating too.

I wonder if they still make the 4.2 port-injected gasoline V8 for something... otherwise, the best-suited engine will be the 3.6 VR6.

This is not the same one that the Touareg or Q7 had, this one was developed after dieselgate and is euro 6 complient.

CF-01-520

Pretty certain that’s Mexican plate layout.

Confirming those are Mexican plates on that Amarok, 100%. But check this out:

I see the guy in BBY-NW from time to time, somewhat often in the same places.

The dealer sticker is from Mexico, FWIW. In a totally-legal sense, I’m thinking it was either brought as a personal effect, or there was an obscure loophole at the time.

Whaat that is a weird one. I’m gonna have to keep my eyes open for that. I’d be really curious to learn how he registered that here, Maybe as an NV and hope no one notices? haha

It’s the same engine family, and Euro 6 compliance is, in practice, like twelve years ago US emissions, or worse.

I so seldom see any Mexico plates up here that I totally forget it’s a possibility

Looks like it’s just privately owned up from Mexico, the plate has been identified

Could’ve also been brought in by somebody in the Forces perhaps? There is a Euro-spec Civic hatchback ( This gen. ) running around Nova Scotia with Nova Scotia plates - saw it a few years ago near Halifax.

Whoaa that would be odd to see in Canada. Is that still a thing they can do? I didn’t realize you could still bring stuff back with you

Yeah I saw one in Ottawa once, I just looked and the car was from Guanajato Mexico. To be fair they probably don’t see many BC plates down there either.

The one other I can remember seeing was also in North Van, it got my attention because Chevy Captivas are not a thing I’ve ever seen in person

Yeah I bet not

They sell a 4.0 TDI in the SQ7 and a 4.1 TDI in the Cayenne. Neither of them were “accused” so far.

I’m not sure...it’s a completely different model Civic, and it wasn’t on diplomatic plates, so I can’t see how they brought it in as a ‘2014 Civic’ or whatever claiming on the paperwork it was the same car we have here when it is obviously so different...

It was way newer than the 15 year rule, so somebody from the Forces home from Germany or something for awhile would be the only way I could see it being legal? We saw it on the 103 Highway outside of Halifax heading away from Halifax on a cloudy day - in the distance I thought it was a Saab 900 hatch ( like this ) from way behind it at first (which are rare enough here, as is) until I realized what it was when we got close. We took one pic on my friend’s smartphone, but sadly I don’t have the pic as proof!
